About

Salvage Bureau is a Sydney-based architectural practice helping homeowners and asset holders unlock more value from existing homes and buildings. We actively search for ways to build more resourcefully, instead of writing off all demolished materials as waste.

Existing buildings often contain more value than is immediately obvious in their structure, materials, orientation, gardens, proportions, histories and patterns of use. Salvage Bureau helps identify what is worth keeping, then tests how it might be adapted, improved or added to in response to changing needs.

Through Pre-Purchase Advice, Before You Build: Feasibility Studies and selective Architectural Services, we help clients make clearer decisions about what to keep, change, add, remove and what may not need to be built at all.

Our ambition is to help Sydney make more of the homes it already has, working more strategically, making them more useful, humane and enduring. Our work is grounded in architectural expertise and informed by built environment stewardship and circular economy principles. We believe better outcomes begin with understanding what opportunities exist before determining what comes next.

The practice is led by Tiffany Liew GAICD FRAIA, a NSW registered architect with experience across residential, education and commercial projects. Tiffany is a National Council Director of the Australian Institute of Architects, a former National President of EmAGN, and a recipient of the 2023 national Dulux Study Tour Prize

We acknowledge the lands, waters and skies of the Country on which we work, and the generosity of Traditional Custodians who have cared for Country over generations. Informed by principles of stewardship, Salvage Bureau seeks to practise with care, restraint and respect. Our place of work is typically on Wangal and Gadigal Country, based in Sydney’s inner west.
